Ready for a smoke-free future?

Stopping smoking is one of the most beneficial decisions you can make for your health, not only does it improve your physical health but is also proven to boost your mental wellbeing. Indeed, the reasons for becoming a non-smoker are many, yet despite these well-known benefits, anyone who has tried to quit through sheer willpower knows how tough that approach can be. You might wonder why even the shocking images on cigarette packets fail to work, these alarming and grotesque images quickly become wallpaper—our mind simply tunes them out.

The reason that consciously willing ourselves to stop is difficult and often ineffective is that like any habit, smoking is an unconscious process, both in what drives us to do it and the act of smoking itself.

Its true to say, we become entranced (aka hypnotised) by the smoking habit, making the process of stopping smoking one of de-hypnosis from the ‘smoking trance’ and ultimately returning to a place of choice and greater self-control. This is achieved by working at the level of the unconscious mind—the part of you that responds to emotions, imagery and patterns rather than rational thinking, language and logic.

If you’re ready to stop smoking for good, take the first step by booking an online consultation or read on for more information.

  • An initial consultation via GoogleMeet in which we discuss suitability for treatment and cover any questions you have prior to booking.

  • We begin by clearly identifying your ultimate goal—putting it into language that helps you connect with the outcome from the very start.

  • Next, we explore your smoking history and current use, identifying the people, places, and activities linked to the habit—both consciously and unconsciously. This deeper understanding helps us recognise the patterns that have reinforced smoking in your daily life.

  • Many people believe quitting smoking is difficult—just one of many common assumptions that can keep them stuck. By uncovering these beliefs, we can challenge and weaken their influence, making change feel more achievable.

We not only focus on quitting and staying quit but also address any fears you may have about what comes next. Some common concerns include:

    • Will I gain weight after quitting?

    • Smoking helps me manage stress—what will I do instead?

    • What do I do with my hands when I’m having a drink?

    • I struggle to say no—how do I react if someone offers me a cigarette?

    • Can I cope with withdrawal symptoms?

  • Here, we shift the balance in favour of quitting through a process of motivation mapping. We map out and amplify the reasons for becoming a non-smoker while minimising any doubts or obstacles that might hold you back.

  • Finally, using a state of relaxed awareness, we introduce new, healthier behaviours tailored to you. This step draws on insights from the previous phases to create a lasting and sustainable change.

Stop Smoking: an overview of the process

Becoming a non-smoker is a deeply personal and often emotional journey—one that involves breaking free from a habit that may have been part of your life for decades. Because change is unique to each individual, the process is tailored to suit your needs, typically following these key phases:

Session information

Sessions are available either in person (Norwich, UK) or online. For most people, a single 90-minute session following the initial consultation is enough to quit smoking for good.

Occasionally, the process may uncover emotional attachments or underlying issues where smoking has been used as a coping mechanism. If additional time is needed to address these before achieving the final goal, we will discuss options for further sessions.

  • "Tom is amazing. I met him this year and stopped smoking after one session, currently at 50 days of desire free non smoking and could not be happier Our session was part talking part hypnotherapy after an initial zoom exploratory chat. I found Tom incredibly easy to talk to, he’s very open and accepting of whatever I said, I never felt weird or uncomfortable irrespective of whatever I said and the session was a joy Already arranged a second session with Tom and looking forward to seeing him again. If you’re after someone in this field you’re in great hands with Tom."
